Fifth grade students presented at our board meeting last night regarding their research project, pertaining to bullying and its effects on school-aged children. School Counselors conduct classroom counseling lessons throughout the year based on the 8 Keys to End Bullying by Signe Whitson. Content covered so far this school year includes:
Activity 1 Know the Basics of Bullying. Our first activity discussed the definition of bullying and what types of behavior patterns occur when a student(s) is bullied.
Activity 2 helped students discover types of behaviors such as rude, mean, and/or bullying and the differences between the three.
Activity 3 showed students what bullying looks like and possible responses to bullying behaviors as well as how to be an upstander instead of a bystander.
Activities 4 and 5 discussed the four main types of bullying, physical, verbal, emotional and cyberbullying. Students learned appropriate methods to respond to bullying as well as procedures and protocol. Students will present to stakeholders the information they have gained through classroom counseling lessons. #WhateverItTakes
