Star City School District Superintendent Jon Laffoon Named Star City Man of the Year #WhateverItTakes

Star City, AR - During the Annual Star City Chamber Banquet last Thursday, January 23, 2020 Star City School District Superintendent, Jon Laffoon, was named Star City Chamber of Commerce, Man of the Year. The District Director of Student Services, Jordan Frizzell, spoke about Mr. Laffoon and all he has been able to accomplish in his tenure at Star City Schools.  Jon was described as someone that has an incredible vision for the kids and community of Star City, and is a workhorse in accomplishing his vision. During his time at Star City Schools Mr. Laffoon has been at the forefront of:

  • Stabilizing our district financially

  • Increasing safety on campuses by adding security cameras, security entrances and access doors at all buildings, and adding an additional SRO in the District.

  • Partnering with Mainline Health to establish a school based health center on campus for all students and staff, which includes health and dental services.

  • Leading a successful restructuring campaign which created facilities revenue for current facility upgrades.

  • Creating a district wide communications plan for community engagement.

  • And creating the Bright Futures program, benefiting Star City students and their families in times of need.

These are just a few things on a long list that he has been able to accomplish during his time here. Jon Laffoon, Ed.S, has worked in education for 20 years.  He has served as a teacher, coach, athletic director, dean of students, principal, and superintendent in his educational career.

Jon serves as the Superintendent of Star City School District and has worked to increase achievement while creating the development of two Schools of Innovation at the Middle School and High School. The elementary is piloting a grade level personalized learning initiative this year as well. He serves on the Board of Directors for Arkansas Rural Education and the Arkansas Association of School Curriculum and Development and collaborates with educators and school districts from around the country.  He is passionate about providing a personalized learning approach that transforms schools to meet the needs of our children and allow them to develop their passions, such as Arts or STEM Education.
