NCRC

This Spring Star City High School students in College and Career Readiness (CCR) and Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) courses took a giant step forward towards achieving their future work related goals. These students invested time and effort into preparing for and taking the National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC) assessment developed by ACT.

The preparation for each student consisted of building their personal skills in three areas; Applied Mathematics, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents. They had to set and meet goals, complete practices and tests, and then analyze their own results constantly looking for ways to improve their own learning. Students then had to complete the actual NCRC standardized assessment which lasted about 3 hours.

The three areas on the NCRC measure skills businesses are looking for when hiring new employees. Four levels of certification can be earned; Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Businesses can not only check certificates through a national database, but it also lets them know up front what skills potential employees have before being hired. The higher the level the better understanding that candidate has of job related tasks.

We are extremely proud of all our dedicated students. 105 of them earned their NCRC this Spring. Star City High student results included 44 Bronze, 36 Silver, 14 Gold, and 11 Platinum certificates!  They did amazing work and made investments in their own futures which is the main focus for both CCR and JAG courses.
