OEP

Star City Middle School has been recognized by the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas as a school that is Beating the Odds, because students demonstrated high growth on the ACT Aspire as a school serves a high percentage of students who participate in Free and Reduced Lunch! The OEP recognizes schools with high student achievement growth. OEP believes growth is the best indicator of the positive impact that your school is having on students.

In the Middle School Level report Star City Middle School received the following awards:

High Overall Growth: Middle Level (Southeast Region)

High Math Growth: Middle Level (Southeast Region)

Awards are based on the 2019 content growth score calculated by the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education. These growth scores reflect how much students at the school improved from 2018 compared to how much they were expected to grow considering prior achievement. We recognize schools based on Overall growth, as well as for growth in Math and English Language Arts separately.

“Congratulations SCMS students and staff on this accomplishment! We are proud to share this good news with teachers, students, and our community who contribute to our school’s success,” stated Superintendent, Jon Laffoon.

Middle School Principal Gina Richard says, “Congratulations to our students, staff, teachers, and our families. We are proud of our High Overall Growth and High Math Growth in our region.  Our teachers and staff are dedicated to our mission and vision here at SCMS to empower our students reach their full potential to prepare them for their future.”
